Late on Sunday night, a drunk motorist in New Brunswick struck a 25-year-old man.
According to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and New Brunswick Police Chief Vincent Sabo, a drunk motorist struck a 25-year-old man late on Sunday night in New Brunswick. The driver left the scene but was later taken into custody.
At 1:24 a.m. on Monday, the automobile struck the young guy on the 100 block of Jersey Avenue. There was a report of a hit-and-run pedestrian, so police were contacted. Police found the young man, who was critically hurt, when they arrived. (He is not a student at Rutgers.)
He was brought to the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, and as of Monday afternoon, his status is still serious.
The young man was struck on Jersey Avenue by a vehicle driven by Abel Bustos-Medel, 31, of New Brunswick, according to the police, who then left the scene. Later, the vehicle was seen with damage consistent with a pedestrian collision on Livingston Avenue.
After being taken into custody, Bustos-Medel was accused of driving under the influence, third-degree leaving the scene of an accident inflicting serious bodily injury, and third-degree assault by auto.
